Whilst there has been some really constructive discussion, comments such as absence of the above call demonstrates a lack of understanding the nature of recording. A collection of calls is only as complete as availability. The audiotape series was without a Wandering Tattler call, the CD series likewise, but I can assure you it was not for want of trying. Pleas were posted on Birding-Aus, letters, emails to many recordists, but nothing forthcoming, hence no calls on the field guide. As a result of the recent discussion Graham Turner has offered a video clip with clear images of the Wandering Tattler together with a call given as it flew off and a few seconds later when out of sight. Both calls are very affected by waves breaking on rocks. In fact it is only due to my acquiring the latest Adobe Audition 3 program, a huge improvement on Audition 1.5, that the calls have proved capable of editing. Once full details are available I'll let you all know how to download a very valuable addition to the CD series. The series is only a guide, no guide is comprehensive and as such use it, use other publications, and by and large you'll be able to pick something which will help identification. If you do have a major improvement to offer, I'd be delighted to know. Any extra calls would only be available for downloading.
