When I returned to live in Ipswich in south east Queensland in 2004, after
nearly 40 years in southern states where Bee-eaters all migrated, I was
surprised to see them pretty regularly round here in winter - but just a
few, not flocks; I have seen migrating flocks in autumn. Peter's posting has
caused me to check, and a quick and incomplete look tells me that in winter
I see them west of Brisbane or occasionally in western suburbs of Brisbane -
though I rarely go to eastern parts of Brisbane so this may not mean
anything.
For example in June I saw them at Adare (north of Gatton), Stirling Road
Reserve (east of Rosewood), and Power's Road Reserve (Muirlea, just north of
Ipswich). So far in July I have seen them at the Kholo Botanic Garden (north
of Ipswich), White Rock Reserve (Redbank Plains, between Brisbane and
Ipswich), Adare and Power's Road Reserve.
All these places are within about 90km west of Brisbane.
