Yes, Fergusson River is good (14 03 55S 131 58 32E), and tributaries. Hooded
Parrot drink in this area also. You may want to also try: along the road to
Edith Falls (Jutbula Rd), off Stuart Highway (where Edith River crosses); Edith
Falls (Nitmiluk NP) camping crea (and for Hooded Parrot) including waterholes
on road into campground; along Old Stuart Highway, which starts on the east
side of Stuart Hwy, just after the Edith Falls turn-off; Chinaman Creek area
(14 36 387 132 08 638) near Victoria Highway, just west of Katherine.
Also in 2006 Greg Oakley, Chris Brady and I saw Gouldian 45 kilometres east of
Darwin on the Arnhem Hwy (100 metres from the Jabiru 200 km [J200]) sign, and
in 2005 they were seen on the Arnhem Hwy, 8km west of Mary River.
Also Water Gardens,in the middle of Pine Creek, is good place to see Hooded
Parrot

Back in 1988-91 I surveyed Gouldian Finch throughout most of the Top End
with a team of field assistants. I've also looked for them as a birdwatchng
guide, since 1983, and found them at dozens, if not hundreds of places.
I've found them drinking in the footprints of horses and cattle near Mary
River Park (in 1988), in the Water Gardens in the middle of Pine Creek, at
the Pine Creek sewage ponds and at mine sites.
This is going to be a rather dry year, and so the rapid drying out of
ephemeral water holes will force Gouldian Finches to more permanent
waterholes, those with shallow edges (if they have a choice). My place of
choice is the Fergusson River.
There is a more complete description of Gouldian Finch habitat and list of
sites in my book "Birds of Australia's Top End".
