Free Trips

As someone who was criticised for getting the occasional free trip (on other
occasions I gave the free portion away to other members of the group) which I
used to organise (not overseas), it has been very interesting to read comments
in this debate. Since then, I haven't bothered to do it and of course no one
has taken a trip to this venue since. I did it because it was such a wonderful
experience to visit this site and to see the look of enjoyment and excitement
on the faces of birders when they saw so many new birds. This was the only
place in Qld to see many of these birds and not something that most people
would bother to do by themselves.

Shame to think that so many new birders have missed out on this experience
because of someone's pettiness.

If your prepared to go to the trouble to organise a trip, then good luck to you
and no one has to go if they don't want to. I'm more than happy to go on trips
organised by someone where their cost is shared amongst the group as you are
using their expertise, their knowledge of the birds, places, contacts,
accommodation, etc. and I believe it is well worth my contribution towards
their trip.
