Hi All,
We have had a number of small, discreet populations of Rainbow
Lorikeets, here in various places around Tasmania, established from
aviary escapees, for some years now. Most of these have hovered
around half a dozen individuals for some years, until just recently,
when at least two of the populations have also 'taken off'. The
authorities are quite concerned on the impact this will have on the
endangered Swift Parrots, when they arrive each summer to feed and
breed. Hence, the Department of Primary Industries Water and the
Environment are currently investigating ways to control this
potentially invasive species.

This news is a bit old, but is a contemporary example of aviary
