HI Unfortunately I didn't see David and Margaret Merrall's posting about the Bustards until after I returned but yesterday, just north of the junction of the Gillies Highway and Marks Lane, near Atherton there were 100+ Sarus cranes feeding in a ploughed field. A beautiful sight. When I asked the farmer for permission to enter an adjacent field to look at the cranes they didn't understand why there was construction equipment in their field!
