This is not an advertisement, but a notice for Birding-Aussers on the subject of bird watching.

While looking over the offerings of the forth coming Sydney Film Festival, one film caught my attention, "Chasing Birds" to be screened on 15th June at 12.15PM at Dendy Opera Quays Cinema. A synopsis of the film is given below. Some of you will be interested!

Chasing Birds

Australia is home to over 800 species of birds from honeyeaters to hawks, spoonbills to frogmouths. It's also home to different species of bird lovers, some of which take their interest a little further than most... 'twitchers' is the commonly used term for such enthusiasts.

Chasing Birds follows three teams - the Hunter Thickheads, the Wacked Out Woodswallows and the Hunter Home Brewers (!) - as they compete in an annual state- wide 'Twitchathon'. The aim is to spot as many birds as possible over 24 hours. The best tactic is to cover as many habitats as possible, so the teams travel huge distances, dashing in and out of rainforest, woodland and marshes. The film crew - which included 12 of Australia's top cinematographers and sound recordists - must be congratulated on their achievement: keeping up with the dashing spotters, without scaring off the birds
