Hi Birders,
While there may be some Dusky Honeyeaters reported in NSW prior to the year
2000 no one may a submission to NSWORAC or provided details or a
description, therefore the first confirmed record for NSW was an observation
by Neil and Judy Russill and other observers, at Piggabeen on 17 August
2005. The bird was observed for a period of 20 minutes at a distance of 2-20
m in a surburban type garden in the village of Piggabeen which is up on the
main range (not in mangroves!). A description was provided and the NSWORAC
accepted the record. A report will appear in the NSW Annual Bird Report in
due course. Hilary & Betty Mannes, well known Qld Gold Coast had previously
seen the bird at this location but had not written up the details.
This is the only record so far submitted to NSWORAC.
