Yes and no Nikolas.

Yes the name 'marsh tern' often refers to terns of the genus Chlidonias, which
contains Whiskered, Black, and White-winged Tern. However Marsh Tern is in fact
the old Australian name for Whiskered Tern 'Chlidonias hybridus' i.e. that
which appeared in the field guides, etc.

Out of interest Whiskered Tern is also sometimes known as the Black-fronted
Tern.

Hi Max,

"Marsh Terns" summarizes all three species of Chlidonias: Whiskered, Black, and
White-winged Tern.

Hi everyone.

On the brochure for the bird routes of the Pilliga, it says there are
occasionally Marsh Terns at Carmel Lagoon. Is the name Marsh Tern just an old
name for Whiskered Tern or something else?

Max.
Sydney...
