Until a couple of weeks ago Spotless Crakes were a dead cert at Mt St
Joseph pond in Altona, Victoria, but the water level has risen and it's
much more hit and miss now. I would estimate that an hour or two at the
northern platform there in the morning or evening would give you a 70%
chance of seeing one now, and about equal chance of Lewin's Rail.
Others may know of sites that give better chances than this while also
giving you a better chance of seeing some of those other species at the
same time. It's not that far from Werribee if you're passing through
there anyway.
Let me know if you want more details.
