Well done Evan!

Tony - I'm absolutely surprised! Your response was tame compared to some of
the others!

A quick summary of the personal emails I received. Note that all
responses are kept anon to protect the guilty.

Now I would have liked to let it run all day, but my understanding of
AF day was that you had to reveal your joke by midday else you become
the fool. Does anyone else know that rule? Anyway, here are the
replies:

"This is the best April fools I've seen this year! When it is over
please post a summary to birding-aus detailing the number of upset
birders that responded :)"

"Hm !! Neatly selfish of you Evan. I guess you feel very clever. Spoilt
the fun for lots of people I imagine. Hope you feel good about that.
One miserable crow and you couldn't let it live. It's just disgusting
what rigid thinking leads to.
Lots of expletives and rude names come to mind but I won't give you the
satisfaction.
I look forward to the next feral to frustrate and incense your closed
mind.
May unhappy birding plague you in the future. Hopefully someone will
catch you in their car boot and take you away for disposal."

"Evan you made my day! Classic!

I hope it's all true and if so will go down in birding history- maybe
infamously in some quarters."

"You got me !! Hadn't given April 1 a thought. Bloody Michael Norris
caught me too.

Hangs head, goes for a shower."

"Good on you. Now, have you any ideas on how to control Gamba Grass?"

"Actually, your story was not out of the bounds of possibility. I've had
Mudlarks, Starlings, etc do similar things by coming in through open
doors. A car hatch is large enough for a bird to think it safe to enter
- better than trying to fly through picture windows anyway.
Just wait til next year, I'll get you if I remember in time.

Try this ( true) bit of info. I have ferals, Starlings, Sparrows, and
Good old Blackbirds nesting in my roof and around the garden. We love
them all and never interfere with their nesting efforts. Unfortunately
our nesting Kookaburras prey on them quite a bit which makes us sad."
