Depending on the season you can see on a Sydney pelagic: Brown Skua, Pomarine
Jaeger, Parasitic Jaeger and Long-tailed Jaeger. I guess South Polar Skua is
also possible.
Brown Skua used to be part of Great Skua (now restricted to the Northern
hemisphere). Pomarine Jaeger is kind of a 'connecting link' between Skuas and
Jaegers. Jaegers are the former Stercorarius (and still are), Skuas are the
former Catharacta (which are now Stercorarius as well).

I'm going on a pelagic next week, and have been going over my seabirds
for the first time in a while. I think the confusion comes from using
some old references on the names, and some funny naming in my list.
Which skuas do we see here (Sydney)? And when does a skua become a
