Everyone,

Nick Livanos and I made a day trip down to the Sydney
Hawkesbury region and Blue Mountains.
Pitt Town was extremely wet under foot which
restricted access but nice views of Bulbul and
Cisticola were had.
Cornwallis Rd produced heaps of Bulbuls as well as
Zebra Finch, Goldfinch, Blackbird, Pipit,
Black-shouldered Kite, Bar-shouldered Dove, Restless
Flycatcher and a Horsfield's Bronze-cuckoo calling.
Next stop was Blue Gum Swamp at Winmalee where we
quickly found a pair of Rock Warbler. They were
extremely inquisitive and hung around for quite some
time. Honeyeaters were everywhere with Yellow-faced,
New Holland, Brown-headed, White-naped and White-eared
seen.
Kings Tableland is my favourite Blue Mountains birding
spot and it didn't disappoint. At first it was quiet
until a flock of 20 Yellow-tail Blacks flew over. As
we were walking back to the car a Beautiful Firetail
flashed past. We chased it into the allocasurinas and
soon had great views of a pair. They vanished but
within a minute they flew back, this time within 3
metres!
Further down the road we had another highlight with a
family of Gang-gang Cockatoo feeding beside the road.
Once again we got within 3m of the birds and got great
pics. Other birds seen in the area included
Mistltoebird, Superb Lyrebird, Tree Martin and heard
an unidentified red robin.
We headed back home seeing Brown Cuckoo-dove, Sacred
Kingfisher and a White-throated Needletail flying
across the F3.
All up we saw 93 species for the day.

Cheers,
Grant Brosie
Raworth
