Tom Tarrant ( presumably TT) is one of the finest birders I have met
- and above all else he has a genuine love and dedication to all
things birds and birding - but certainly not some rampant desire to
tick and split! I cant imagine where anyone could get that impression!
Quite the contrary -his ideals are much more about enjoying each and
every bird he sees (and selflessly showing others), sharing his
knowledge, preserving our precious birdlife and making a genuine and
lasting contribution to all things birding.

As the
assumed TT (and a Queenslander) I find it hard to believe that
anyone would
accuse me of such a heinous crime, especially as I don't even know
how many
species I have on my Australian list (....If I could be bothered to
count I
would surmise at less than 600!)
Indeed as the only 'birding' achievement that I feel that I have
made, the
ABID (www.aviceda.org/abid) was originally created to increase the
number of
species from the paltry amount in Australia to the much 'healthier'
number
in the Australasian Region without the need to 'split' the 'true-blue'
ever-further, it should be plain to see that the accusations bing made
against me are false and without foundation.
In June I intend to return to Fiji to make sure that Golden Whistler,
Scarlet Robin and Fan-tailed Cuckoo are indeed merely sub-species
of the
nominate race although I must admit I can't wait to see Silktail,
Orange
Dove and the Taveuni race of Giant Forest Honeyeater (soon to be split
perhaps?).....Gee, my World-List must be approaching 3000!)

PS. Where are your pics of the Cooktown Gull, Mike? ( we need them
on the
ABID)
