Although most birders in the Cairns / Wet Tropics area will know the situation regarding the Cooktown Gull a local well known birder, Kath Shurcliff copied in above for email address, has volunteered to monitor the birds presence and answer queries from would-be twitchers. Her phone number is 0401 211 985. Kath and husband Dave Houghton know their gulls - they're the only ones to have seen Mew Gull in Australia - they found it on Christmas Island! Other sources would be the harbour master, (he found it), local National Parks rangers, (they asked the questions and the supplied the first photos), and the local paper, the Cooktown Times, (they publicised it).
