Apart from lowering the speed limit (as if), is there anything safe one can do 
to avoid birds on a freeway?

As for the increase in traffic, surely clogging the road up till it slows to a 
crawl would be the best thing for these birds.

That said, I wonder how many are being hit each week. Difficult to know unless 
you know how often the dead ones get removed.
