How could you move a thick knee to a safer environment in Sydney? It's
not just a matter of catching the bird, it is also a matter of finding
a place that is free of dogs etc. Why was the thick knee at that
location in the first place - was it a good hunting ground?
On the subject of dog owners, many people are unable to understand
that their pride and joy is a threat to anyone other than burglars.
This is why a number of children [and adults] are mauled [and in some
cases killed] by family pets every year.

Perhaps birders should have taken a bit more responsibility with the

It should not have been left to fend for itself. It could have been
protected or moved to a safer environment.
As for educating dog owners, it would be quicker to train monkeys!
