Hi Tim,
Thanks for the challenging quiz, but I must take issue with your
final statement:
"So, there you are. Inner Melbourne is officially the best place in
the world to see parrots!"
That honour in fact goes to the Capertee Valley! There we have 18
species of parrot EXcluding escapees:
Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo
Glossy Black-Cockatoo
Gang-gang Cockatoo
Galah
Long-billed Corella
Little Corella
Sulphur-crested Cockatoo
Rainbow Lorikeet
Scaly-breasted Lorikeet
Musk Lorikeet
Little Lorikeet
Australian King-Parrot
Crimson Rosella
Eastern Rosella
Swift Parrot
Red-rumped Parrot
Budgerigar
Turquoise Parrot
Now I think of it, exactly the same list applies to the Blue
Mountains, but that's a larger area. In the Capertee Valley, all the
above have been recorded either on or within a couple of kms of my
block, except Budgerigar which has been seen about 5kms away.
Is there anywhere that can better that? (Uh oh, what have I started?)
Cheers,
Carol
