A brief fine period between storms yesterday saw my place alive with birds.
Yellow-faced Honeyeater, Grey Fantail, Spotted Pardelote and Yellow Robin
juveniles were seen. The stringybark (Eucalyptus oblonga) was in flower and
Brown-headed, New Holland and Scarlet Honeyeaters were feeding there. I have
only ever seen Scarlet Honeyeaters here when the stringy is in flower, while
common in the lower mountains they are very uncommon here. Leaden Flycatcher,
Black-faced Monarch and Rufous Whistler are still around, while a juvenile
White-throated Gerygone was just passing through, (I only ever see them on
passage). Superby Lyrebirds are starting to call again, a Pilotbird is back
after a couple of years and the usual February Powerful Owl is calling again.
Autumn must be on the way.
