Hi Evan

I saw them and posted to birdline about it last week. I've seen them a couple
of times at Kurnell.

As you drive up to Cape Solander, on the right about 250-300 metres into the
heath you'll see a big white tower, which is just behind a great big reservoir.
Theres a little firebreak/path that goes from the road up to there. There's
room to park one car just before the gate. I've seen them about 100 metres in
from the road, but there were plenty more, as well as other interesting birds
further along the track, and beyond the reservoir at the start of teh pipeline
that goes down to the refinery. Birds seen there include Chestnut Rumped
Heath-wren, White-browed Scrubwren, and 1 male Variegated Fairy-wren (I;ve only
ever seen the one). Once you've seen them, on the way back to your car, if you
head out to Cape Solander by a track on the right, I've seen Bar-shouldered
Doves and Brown Quail in the heath there. It's a nice, and short, detour to get
back to your vehicle.

I find them by walking along until I hear a squeak, then squeaking myself
stupid. Works well, and anyone bushwalking gets a good laugh. I'm constantly
suprised by the turnout to squeaking there - better than anywhere else I've had.

Some record shots of the emu wrens are here.

If its raining though, good luck - I've only got them there on relatively still
days.

Good Luck.

Cheers
Troy

I'm going to add the Southern Emu-Wren to my life list next saturday,
and I'm going to do it at Kurnell Peninsula, rain hail or shine. The
maps and records I've seen of the area seem pretty self explanatory,
but are there any tips on where (or how) to look? There was a post mid
last week suggesting the area around Cape Solander Drive was worth a
look, and I'll definitely wander out along Towra Point as well.
