Hi all
Most if not all the C&B splits of Aus species from other species
internationally have been accepted by many (all?) overseas bodies for
some (ie many) years. Brown from Great Skua is a particularly old
split and it is quite amusing to me that until a month ago this was
"lumped" in Australia. Similarly the Morepork has been on the "split"
list for sometime. It seems we are extremely conservative in terms of
splitting in Australia. I am sure that in time there will be many
more "splits" in Australia.
In other countries where there are more birders (Eg the UK), birders
have taken it on themselves to develop birders lists independent of
taxonomists in attempts to manage updates in "real time".

Subject: New Zealand Morepork Ninox novaehollandiae ?

Dear all,
I am reading the latest issue of the Oriental Bird Club's journal
BirdingASIA at the moment. In a letter to the editor by the authors of
an article from a previous edition there is a mention of a species of
Ninox, "New Zealand Morepork Ninox novaehollandiae".
Is this a taxonomic change that missed Christidis & Boles 2007? I have
done a search on the net and trawled through my own references and can
find no mention. Can any Birding-Ausers shed any light?
Cheers,
Carl Clifford
