Hi All,
I will try not to be as idiot-centric as I probably seemed to be in a recent
posting...................although.........I am gratified to know that some
faithful friends had trouble controlling their bodily fluids as they read
that notorious Jaeger posting. (They know me too well!!)
In response to Paul Dodd's request for reliable ways to distinguish between
Pied Oystercatcher (Haematopus longirostris) and South Island Pied
Oystercatcher (H. finschi) I have uploaded to my Flickr account a set of
images of a South Island Pied Oystercatcher (SIPO) I discovered at Clontarf,
SE Queensland (Australia) a few years ago.
This collection of images, intended as an aid for Australian birders to help
them in identifying SIPO from Pied Oystercatcher, used to reside on my
personal website, however, I have retired that website until I find the time
and enthusiasm to revitalise it.
To see the SIPO set of images go to:

Click on the SIPO Set.
These images were taken a few years ago (pre digital cameras) and are not
the best image-quality but should be of some use to SIPO seekers in
Australia.
I am happy to field comments and criticism but don't be surprised if I take
some time to respond (or not) as I am spending a lot of time watching those
beautiful tennis ladies with the glowing complexions as well as watching the
Indians thrashing the Aussies at cricket.
Cheers
Bob Inglis
