I did a little birding yesterday on a private property 14 kilometers up the
Middle Arm Road from Goulburn.
The grass is very long and many of the dams are full, with strong reed
growth around their edges in overflow areas. It's a very good season, which
makes a nice change.
Birds included the usual residents- Yellow-rumped Thornbill, Diamond
Firetail, Australasian Grebe, Pacific Black, Grey Teal, Welcome Swallow,
Buff-rumped Thornbill, Crimson and Eastern Rosella, Wood Duck, Magpie, Aust.
Raven, Kookaburra, Galah, Cockatoo, Dusky Woodswallow and Crested Pigeon.
Slightly more surprising was when, while wading through reeds looking at
damsel flies, I flushed a Latham's Snipe from next to a dam. That's the
first time I've seen this species in this area. I flushed it twice in two
days from the same spot.
