Mid this week, I saw a wedge tailed eagle drop from the sky toward my
neighbour's paddock. I took my binocs out for a look. There were four wedgies
sitting in the paddock (somewhat like vulctures). Two fledglings and two
adults. I believe there are nests used each year in another neighbours
property. I couldn't see what attracted their attention, but I did not see them
feed and they soon flew off on heavy wings. Isn't it fantastic that we can
still see such things within 50k of Melbourne CBD.
Soon after a pair of rufous whistlers perched in a camelia just 1m from my
windown. The song was glorious. The male then spent a few minutes harrying his
reflection in the window (0.5m from where I sat), before moving off. The pair
have been with us all summer, but I have not seen any signs of them nesting.
