The tour that you had was only for yesterday, according to the
website. Damn! The exhibition is on until 9 March.

Hi Everyone,
Yesterday I had the pleasure of going to Brisbane to see the
Exhibition of Birds of Australia at the State Library.
The Exhibition consists of a 19th century Glass Bird Dome of birds
collected around the Gympie area, as well as the original works of
The Birds of Australia by Gould, illustrations by Silvester Diggles,
Charles Hirst and Gregory Matthews and a small Alphabet Bird Book in
concertina form as well as a sculpture of a Dusky Robin carved into
a book by Kylie Stillman. The display also included a painting by
Anthony Alder who was a taxidermist for the Queensland Museum in
1907 and specimens from the museum including Albert's Lyrebird.
Robert Mahoney from Birds Queensland gave an introduction to each of
the items on display and a discourse on the life and works of John
Gould.
It was wonderful to have the opportunity to actually see and handle
(with white gloves of course) the 6 fascimilied volumes of The Birds
of Australia by Gould & Richter as well as those works by Morris
and other authors and Forshaw's book Birds of the World illustrated
by William Cooper.
To be able to actually turn the pages and admire each painting was
an experience I never thought I would ever have. It would require
many hours to really appreciate the extent of the works on display.
Congratulations to all those who were involved in organising and
setting it up.
