I got a few great books for Christmas including:
Penny Olsen's book on the Paradise Parrot which is fantastic -
"Glimpses of Paradise - the quest for the Beautiful Parakeet".
Obviously a mountain of work went into researching it. I am
thoroughly enjoying it! I really like the graphic design of the book
too from a visual standpoint, even though it is really a thorough
history of the Paradise Parrot from it's first to 'last' sighting.
Sean Dooleys new one is also good but haven't read much yet.
Mitch Reardon's "Brolga Country" is a bit more photo/coffee table
which is lovely also, but still plenty to read as well.
I also received two field guides - the new Pizzey and also Derek
Onley and Paul Schofields "ALbatrosses. Petrels and Shearwaters of
the world" which are probably not quite what you were after??
ANyway hope everyone had a great Christmas and has a fantastic New Year.
I'm off tomorrow for my second attempt at the Lesser Yellowlegs so
wish me luck!

As others have said, Sean Dooley's books are very entertaining and

Birds by
John Huxley. I got a copy for Christmas and it will provide me
with lots
of bedtime reading about a variety of subjects.

Dear all -
As a rookie birder with limited time , I'm looking for well-written
books
on
birds generally - eg, habits, biology, lifecycles, migrations, and
the such
- and on birding as a pastime. I gather Dooley's book would be a
hoot on
the
latter.
I tried to read a book with lots of interesting bird info in it a
few years
ago, but it was written in such a dull and pedestrian style I couldn't
finish it.
What is good out there?
I'm also not averse to well-written web-pages.
