For those attending the St Helens pelagic, Saturday 29th December 2007.
Vessel Name Nifty II, 60 aluminium starboat. Planned departure time
06.30. from St Helens South Wharf (Finger 1) We will arrive back about
1500 hrs, weather and bird dependent
.
Plenty of free car parking at wharf
Warm clothes recommended.
Bring your own food and drinks
Cost $100, pay at departure.
We will be heading out to the sea mounts and deep water canyons of the
Tasman Sea beyond the continental shelf slope, approx. 2 hrs sailing
from St Helens. Currently high bird numbers have been reported and also
numerous sightings of Humpback Whales. Tomorrow we will also be close
to the route of passing Sydney Hobart and Melbourne Hobart yachts.
The weather forecast is reasonable. Should be enough wind to keep
birds mobile. For Saturday, the forecast is currently "Northwest winds
15 to 25 knots, tending south to southeast at 10 to 20 knots about the
south late. Seas chiefly around 2 metres. Swell below 1 metre".

June 2008 Thursday 19th, Friday 20th, Saturday 21st
July 2008 Thursday 24th, Friday 25th, Saturday 26th.
Good news is the day trip cost for the 3 day trips have been reduced to
$100.00 per day, a saving of $30 per day resulting from a no profit deal
with the charter operator who is becoming personally interested in
birds. And for a bit of extra fun on each of the May, June and July (3
day) pelagics, to the birder judged by the group to have located the
best sighting over the three days. we are awarding a copy of Albatrosses
, Petrels and Shearwaters (Onley and Scofield)
For those who have not yet booked, there are vacancies on all dates
although May is nearly full, June has plenty of vacancies and July still
has a few spaces. Please contact me if you are interested in any of
