Thanks, I see that it includes a thing to attach it via the tripod mount.  I 
thought these things had to be in front of the camera to reliably trigger from 
the in built flash.  Is that not necessary?

A number of slave flashes have systems to get around the preflash.
Canon make an Auxiliary flash but it uses a no rechargable lithium
battery, expensive and hard to obtain.

Metz make a flash that has a learning mode to get around the preflash I
just bought one for my daughter to use with her S3IS for Xmas.  It uses
AAA batteries so you can go with rechargeables.  here's a link to the
