Hello all,

I've finally completed the update of my passerines gallery on my website (www.wildlifing.com). They have incorporated older photographs along with some new ones (latest ones of of Welcome Swallows).

The trip to the subantarctic (incl. Macquarie Island) (with Heritage Expeditions) that Peter Marsh mentioned on Birding-aus, I was fortunate enough to be on as well. It truly was an amazing experience and I would recommend the trip to almost everyone. Just briefly, some of the bird highlights for me would have included:

King and Royal Penguins- in vast numbers on Macquarie Island. The numbers of birds at Lusitania Bay just has to be seen to be believed. Their curiosity in people is an incredible and humbling experience as well. In my opinion, Macquarie Island is one of the most amazing places in Australia (or at least under Australian jurisdiction). The number of rabbits was a bit of a downer. Numbers of many of the petrels are now very low at Macquarie- no doubt the rabbits burrowing is a contributing factor.
Southern Royal Albatrosses- courting and breeding on Campbell Island.
New Zealand Snipe- seen on four occasions on Enderby Island. To see a bird that is so vulnerable to extinction is a privilege. Campbell's Albatross- nesting in huge numbers at the northern end of Campbell Island. Pipits- Auckland Island and Campbell Island subspecies. These birds are so friendly. I wish our pipits were half as interesting!

I'll be putting photos up on my website once I've processed them.

Cheers

Mick
