Yep. I've certainly printed out the Google Maps representation of the WTP
with the map overlaid on top of the satellite image. That's pretty good, but
doesn't label all the ponds. I've also got a handheld GPS that I use for
tracking (and for marking waypoints at interesting locations). All that's
missing is the general location names and names of specific ponds...

G'day all

I don't know the WTP geography at all (I also rely on others to
occasionally take me in). However this is an example of how we can begin
to use readily available technology to assist with our site descriptions.

The whole WPT area is fortunately covered by high quality imaging in
Google Earth. Many of the roads are also labeled. Someone with a high
level of knowledge of the area could develop an overlay with tracks,
gates, pond names etc. quite easily and make it available to all. More
widespread use and provision of GPS waypoints could also assist here.

GE image quality across the globe is improving every day and GPS
technology will soon be in every phone, camera and car. There should be
no reason why we can't make better use of this when describing locations.

Cheers
