I highly recommend Malibu Creek State Park and Malibu Lagoon. They are only
about half an hour from the airport. Malibu Creek SP has excellent birding and
is very scenic and an interesting place. You will recognize it if you have ever
seen the start of the M*A*S*H TV show where the helicopters coming flying in
with mountains in the background.
Not sure if it was affected by the recent fires.
