I will be spending 2 nights in Griffith over the weekend and was wondering
whether anyone had any up to date information for me.
I have already searched the birding-aus archive for relevant trip reports
but am after more recent information.
My target species are:
Malleefowl (On the off chance that ther are any recent sightings near
Griffith or in Binya SF. Is there still a bird at Stackpoole SF or at
Taleeban?)
Plains-wanderer (Any recent sightings at Oolambeyan NP or closer to
Griffith? Is the area around Morundah Station worth checking out?)
Australian Pratincole (Any recent sightings closer to Griffith than
Oolambeyan?)
Inland Dotterel
Chestnut Quail-thrush (Most likely spot closest to Griffith? have they
been recorded at Taleeban before?)
Grey-fronted Honeyeater
Brolga (I am pretty sure I will get this species at Fivebough Swamp. I
believe there were some 40 birds present last week.)
Gilbert's Whistler (A reliable site near Griffith?)
Of course I realise that some of these species will be very difficult to
find.
My itinerary includes Binya State Forest/Cocoparra NP, Fivebough Swamp,
Lake Wyangan, Hay Plains/Oolambeyan NP, Pulletop Nature Reserve and
Talleeban Mallee.
I believe that Campbells Swamp and Nericon Swamp are both dry and I assume
Barren Box Swamp has been dry for ages.
Is Pulletop still worth visiting? What condition is the mallee in there?
