Hi Val, Dave, et. al.,
Tasmanian Native Hens are indeed flightless, and there is no way this 'expert' could find them turning up this time every year in the Grampians. I suggest they have been seeing Black-tailed Native Hens, which are similar, though much smaller, and a bit differently coloured. They do at least fly!
