Hi Arron,
It might be worth putting the chick in a "nest" (empty ice cream container
or box, lined with paper) up somewhere high, just in case the parents are
still around. Very often, once they think you've left, they will come down
and encourage the young one to climb back up the nest tree (or one nearby).
If that doesn't work and you want to raise the baby, then you can feed it a
few things:
- soak dog biscuits in water and feed it a few every so often (this will
keep it hydrated as well as food)
- buy Wombaroo's Insectivore mix, and mix this into some mince, along with a
whole egg (shell and all - for the calcium)
I have raised a baby magpie (Magnus) and he was an absolute joy. He used to
lie upside down on my lab while I stroked his feathers, would soak himself
under the garden sprinkler and then knock on the back door for me to let him
in and blow dry him with my hair dryer!
