Tips for birding around Alice SpringsJohn

search for a report by greg oakley and tim dolby on their alice springs trip-
it gives a good coverage. The tyre in the pole on santa teresa road is easy
to find-it is the first place yoiu come to where the spinifex comes down to
both sides of the road-it is approx 33 kms from airport roundabout.

Kunoth bore is the best place I know for bourkes parrots-did you see my recent
report re this? They can also be seen during the day there with luck. The
most reliable site I know for dusky grasswren is Mt Gillen ( a walking track
leads up there from Flynn's grave on larapinta drive) My wife saw them there
this mornign at quarter past nine for example-she walks there frequently adn
frequently sees them though of course you can miss-anywhere from the saddle up.

N'dahla gorge today had many painted finches(apparently a reliable spot) and
golden backed form of black chinned honeyeater. Crimson chats on ringwood
station four wheel drive tourist track not long before the turn off to N'dahla
gorge-also saw crimson chats a few days ago on the way to Hermannsburg, just
past the Owen springs turn off. Cockatiels in both of these places as well,
also rufous songlark.

Good luck wiht the birding- by the way approx and hour before sunset 30 red
tailed black cockatoos came into Kunoth well bore

Gary
