Yesterday the Cumberland Bird Observers' Club had a field day at Cape Solander near Kurnell Sydney.

Highlights were:

Black Browed Albatross both races.
Yellow Nosed Albatross
Shy Albatross including 1 possibly 2 Salvin's Albatross
Wandering Albatross. Seen flying and feeding on the water with other Albatrosses and was 10% to 20% bigger than an adjacent Shy Albatross. It was a Stage 5 to 6 bird.
Southern Giant Petrel
Large numbers of Fluttering Shearwaters, all heading south.
Australian Gannet
Crested Tern
Silver Gull
Kelp Gull 1 immature and 1 adult
At the Captain Cook memorial at Kurnell there were 5 Sooty Oystercatchers.
There were also a pair of Masked Lapwings, one of which had very dark plumage, sparking a debate about whether it was immature plumage, an aberrant individual or feather contamination. Viewing this bird later on it appeared that the bird's feathers were contaminated, possibly with oil.
At Bonna Point we saw:
1 x Grey Tailed Tattler in partial breeding plumage.
3 x Bar Tailed Godwits in non breeding plumage

An excellent days birding.
