Gooday birders

Does anyone know much about the Panasonic LX-2 or its Leica D-LUX 3
copy. Are they any good for bird stuff or just for general photography.
Any personal experiences would be appreciated.

Hi Kev,

Another camera to look into is the new Olympus SP550 UZ - with an
optical
zoom of 18x that gives 28-504mm range, macro to 1cm, image
stabilisation,
7.1 megapixel raw files (or jpeg if you choose) it actually presents as
a
serious alternative to getting an SLR camera. Big downsides are those
shared by all other compact digitals - inability to improve your range
without huge loss of quality, and inability to manually focus on
difficult
subjects. The only downside I can see specific to this camera is that
you
have to use the Olympus brand memory card (xD). Worth checking out, on
the
internet it can be found for between $600 and $800.

For the record, I have no commercial ties to Olympus (I use Nikon stuff)
-
I've just been looking at this camera as an alternative travel camera to
lugging around my SLR for work.

Regards,
Chris
