A request for Victorian birdos on Hooded Robins.
I'm keen to hear of people's thoughts on possible local declines or
extinctions of Hooded Robin anywhere in Victoria.
I last inquired about (Victorian) Hooded Robin populations in 1999 and a
few people (Kennedy, Conole, Collins, Hewish) provided me with some very
useful information on woodland bird declines in se Australia. This
information assisted in listing Hooded Robin as a threatened species under
the Victorian Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act.
As a result of again reading some unpublished material (by naturalist Des
Quinn) on French Island (Western port Bay) Hooded Robin (now probably
extinct), I'm planning on compiling a brief paper on the status and
distribution of Victorian Hooded Robin populations, especially where there
is evidence or suggestion that some populations have become locally
extinct.
To this end it would be great to have further thoughts and ideas from list
members.
The information I require is as follows:
- observer name
- location of population
- date of last observation
- evidence of decline
Also, if any interstate observers have thoughts on this issue I'm keen to
hear from them as well, particularly threatening processes on woodland
robins.
Please reply to me directly.
