As part of a project on Willie Wagtails I once followed several pairs
around our farmlet for a few Spring/summer weekends. This was in the good
old days when it rained. There were four territories abutting and the
interactions were interesting.
While observing and listening to one particular male, I heard the
distinct call of a Red-whiskered Bulbul interspersed with normal
Willie-wagtail calls. Bulbuls are common here but not in the vicinity at
that time. In the scope it was clearly the Willie Wagtail making the bulbul
calls, there were no other birds there. This went on intermittently for
several minutes, eventually the bulbul calls fading into subsong.
Any other records of mimicry in W Wagtails?
