Thanks to a few people who responded to my RFI for spots to bird
around Canberra, I spent a couple of hours this morning at
Mulligan's Flat Nature Reserve in the north of Canberra.
My hopes weren't high as it was extremely windy so seeing or hearing
birds was difficult.
Heaps of kangaroos around. Managed to find some more sheltered bush
not far past the information board and ran into a feeding party of
lots of small birds which was great.
Species seen in the 2 hours:
Magpie
Crimson Rosella
Rufous Whistler
Golden Whistler
Spotted Pardalote
Buff-rumped Thornbill (heaps and they came to within a couple of
metres of me!)
Grey Fantail
White-throated Treecreeper
White-throated Gerygone
White-winged Chough
Grey Currawong
All in all a much more productive walk than i first thought it would
be. Certainly added a couple of nice birds to my year list.
Other birds of interest over the weekend were 3 Gang gangs at the
Federal Golf Club on Saturday and a pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles above
the freeway leaving Canberra.
