In response to the questions about how to separate Pied and South Island Pied
Oystercatchers, if anyone would like me to send them a pdf copy of Mike
Carter's articles that were in Australian Birding magazine about eight years
ago, send me an email.

Re the report of a White throated Treecreeper near Burnie, my recollection from
when I lived in Tasmania was that there were a number of claimed sightings,
ranging back to one in Littler's 1910 book, but none has ever been confirmed.
All the relatively recent reports had turned out to be something else. Not
sure what else people could confuse them with - perhaps Strong billed
Honeyeaters if observers were miles away and making the claim based on
behaviour. Otherwise maybe Scrubtit? But a Scrubtit up a big tree would be
just as rare a sighting as a treecreeper. Don't suppose anyone got photos of
these birds?

Cheers

Murray Lord
