This morning (4th March 2007), I spent a couple of hours birding around
Cronulla (approx. 20-30 km south of Sydney CBD).

I visited Boat Harbour around high tide where I had great views of 23
Pacific Golden Plover, 4 Double-banded Plover, 110 Red-necked Stints, a
Wandering Tattler (this bird called a few times with its "ti..ti..ti.."
not unlike a 'mobile phone' ring tone!), 13 Ruddy Turnstones, 12 Sooty
Oystercatchers and an Eastern Reef Egret. Many of the Siberian
shorebirds were showing signs of breeding colour.

I made brief visits to the Quibray Bay viewing platform where there were
35 Bar-tailed Godwits (one with a lot of breeding plumage) roosting on
the posts above the water and at Shell Pt where I had 34 Pied
Oystercatchers roosting on their favourite wharf (I had 35 roosting
there on the 26/1/07).

If I stuck around towards low tide I would have seen more shore birds
around Cronulla. The weather looked perfect also for Swifts in the
morning which I was surprised not to see any.
