This is probably very, very old hat to a lot of people here.  Probably
so old that's it's funny.  I just discovered that birds' lungs are a bit
different to ours!  I found an animation of the complex airflows
involved: http://www.sci.sdsu.edu/multimedia/birdlungs/ (you need
shockwave to view it).

Hopefully there are at least some people here who find it interesting,
rather than old hat.
