Gordon,

Some people report Fork-tailed Swifts because generally they are uncommon to rare in NSW and others report White-throated Needletails because Mike Tarburton is doing a study of them and is interersted in any sightings!

However it is true, WTN are not rare and many other species considered Threatened or vulnerable deserve more attention.
