The Ocean Grove Nature Reserve can be quiet in mid-summer, but it is still a
great birding spot. Best times to visit are during spring or mid-autumn. If
you only have an hour or so, wander along the north edge of the reserve
towards the north west corner. This will take you from sheoke dominated
habitat into an area with extensive Austral Grasstrees and Coastal Manna
Gum. There are birdhides at two of the waterholes, but both are dry at the
moment. When there is water in the dam on the western side, it is a great
spot to watch birds drinking at the end of a hot day. Usually, I get at
least 30 species in a two hour walk.

For records of birds seen recently in the Geelong area, check the Geelong
Field Naturalists website at http://home.vicnet.net.au/~gfnc/
