Diversion from... Maremma dog Protects penguins

 Hi All,
   Just a thought on free-range chickens.
   Geese keep the foxes at bay, but what about Ariel raptors?  Most large
grapegrowing areas poison passerines, they deny it, but if they don't net
fruiting grapevines, they certainly poison. One well known "organic" Mudgee
winegrower told me so when I asked him how he kept Silvereyes off his
grapes. ( I don't think he realised that I was a birder). Has anyone seen
netted vines at Mudgee?
   Without their basic diet of passerines, poisoned or otherwise, my guess
is that Goshawks ("chickenhawks")  et al just don't frequent Mudgee. Free
range fowl are notoriously prone to raptors in most country towns.
