Hi all
Another great day at sea this time from Swansea. Again we went out 35
nautical miles due East of the Swansea. We had Southerlies from 10-15
knots in the morning to 20-25 knots in the afternoon with a 2M swell.
We went on a slower but larger boat that we will probably use for our
future pelagics. We left at 7.30am and arrived back at 7.30pm.
Highlights were a White-bellied Storm-Petrel which hung around the
boat for 10 mins. If accepted this will be the 2nd confirmed record
off the NSW coast both records are from Newcastle/Swansea. We also
had at least 5 Gould’s Petrels and again good numbers of Sooty Terns.
Another highlight was a Little Shearwater ojn the way back in which
is a first record for the Newcastle area.
We'll publicise additional pelagics for later in the year soon
Totals were:
Great-winged Petrel 10
Gould’s Petrel 5+
White-faced Storm-Petrel 2
Wilson’s Storm-Petrel 3
