Help identifying waterbird

Could somebody please have a look at these photos to help identify this bird?  
It was seen in the Mount Saint Joseph Wetlands (Altona, Victoria) this morning. 
 It was wading around, knee deep, by itself.

Apologies for the photo quality, especially the front and rear shots - it was a 
fair way away.

The best matches I can find in my books are juvenile Marsh Sandpiper and 
juvenile Wilson's Phalarope.  I can't believe it's the latter, but shouldn't I 
be able to see some white on its lower back if it's a Marsh Sandpiper?  I've 
seen neither before.
