Hi All,
Inadvertently taking the wrong ramp off the Hume Freeway into Seymour
today, led to a nice sighting. There is a small swamp at the back of the
weighbridge on the Seymour - Shepparton Road which I have always checked
out. Today I almost drove past it, fully expecting it to be dry. But, old
habits die hard, so I did a U turn and, while half of the swamp had
certainly dried out, the northern end still had a reasonable amount of
water. Birds included Pelican, plenty of Wood Duck, 2 Yellow-billed
Spoonbill, Masked Lapwings plus 5 Latham Snipe.
They were very easily seen as the water has receded considerably from the
reeds/grass and the snipe were foraging/bathing around the edge. Birds were
sighted around 5.45pm.
Might be worthwhile checking it out for anyone in the area who hasn't yet
caught up with a Latham's Snipe.
