Hi All,

Over the last couple of days I 've had some sightings that may be of interest
to others. The area is along the Maribyrnong River between the Farnsworth
Avenue Bridge and Pipemakers Park on the west side of the Maribyrnong River in
the Ascot Vale/Maribyrnong area. It includes the river side of the new
Edgewater Estate, Jack's Magazine, Jack's Canal, the recently renamed "Frog's
Hollow" and Pipemakers Park.

On Tuesday at the pond just north of Jack's Canal, among other birds, there was
a single Latham's Snipe in the grass around the pond. It flew several times. A
Brown Goshawk flew down the hill into trees in Pipemakers Park. A Richard's
Pipit was in the grass on the river bank and four White -faced were in Jack's
Canal - which is now dry.

Returning to the site on Wednesday there were two Black-winged Stilts, a Great
Egret and a Nankeen Night Heron and the Snipe was still there sneaking around
the edge of the pond.

On Thursday at the newly created ponds nearest to the Farnsworth Avenue Bridge
among the usual suspects was a single Baillon's Crake. It worked it way along
the edge of the pond before disappearing into some reeds.

In this area there is also Dusky Wood-swallow and Australasian Grebe as well as
about 40 more common species

regards

Jim Caine
